Got a Tip?

Asa Butterfield, Nat Wolff, And More On Shortlist To Play Marvel’s ‘Spider-Man’

Spider-Man, Natt Wolf, Asa Butterfield"Captain America: Civil War" is shooting very soon, and the rumors have had it that Marvel‘s rebooted Spider-Man will make his first appearance in the film. But before that can happen, they need to cast him, and a few names have surfaced as contenders for the gig.

The Wrap reports that buzzworthy rising star Nat Wolff ("Paper Towns," "The Fault In Our Stars"), Asa Butterfield ("Hugo," "Ender’s Game"), Tom Holland ("Wolf Hall," "In The Heart Of The Sea"), Timothee Chalamet ("Interstellar," "The Adderall Diaries") and Liam James ("The Killing") are in the running. It’s certainly not the most diverse selection of players, and we guess those previous assertions by the trade that Spider-Man "would not be white" didn’t pan out.

That being said, there’s still some time for this to play out as the new Peter Parker isn’t expected to have to be on set for ‘Civil War’ until June. As for the standalone "The Spectacular Spider-Man" due in 2017, Drew Goddard is still the frontrunner to write and direct, but the big question is, how will this Spider-Man be any different than what we’ve seen before?

"When he puts that mask on, in the comics, he has a non-stop wit that’s almost as troubling to the bad guys he fights as his webs and agility. We feel we haven’t really seen that yet," Kevin Feige recently said. Actually, I’m pretty sure Andrew Garfield‘s take was pretty quippy, but maybe everyone is just trying to forget that happened.

Anyway, let us know what you think about these folks as the potential new face for Spider-Man.
