'Azrael' Trailer: Samara Weaving Is Being Hunted In E.L. Katz's New Horror

You have to give props to the folks at IFC and Shudder for creating a trailer for a film about a bunch of mute folks. But that’s exactly what they did for the upcoming film “Azrael.”

As seen in the trailer, “Azrael” tells the story of a devout community that is hunting down a young woman. However, as this is after the Rapture, everyone is silent. So, in the trailer, there isn’t a lick of dialogue to be heard. The film stars Samara Weaving, Natahan Stewart-Jarrett, Vic Carmen Sonne, Katariina Unt, and Sebastian Bull Sarning. “Azrael” is directed by E. L. Katz, who is probably best known for films such as “Small Crimes” and “Cheap Thrills.”

“Azrael” debuts in select theaters on September 27. You can watch the trailer below.

Here’s the synopsis:

In a world in which no one speaks, a mysterious, devout community hunts down a young woman named Azrael (Samara Weaving) who has escaped their imprisonment. Recaptured by its ruthless leaders, she is to be sacrificed to pacify an evil which resides deep within the surrounding wilderness – but Azrael will stop at nothing to ensure her own freedom and survival. From the seeds of this gritty, relentless parable of sacrifice and salvation, comes an immersive, real-time, action horror tale from the visionary minds of Simon Barrett and E.L. Katz.
