‘Backtrace’ Trailer: Sylvester Stallone’s Latest Action Film Checks All The Boxes For A Fun Time

A bank heist that has gone wrong. A brain injury, leading to amnesia. A prison breakout. An experimental brain-healing serum. Drugs, gunfights, and the FBI. Sly Stallone. Are these the ingredients to a film that sounds awesome to you? Then you’re in luck. This December, Ryan Guzman, Matthew Modine, and the aforementioned Stallone star in an action thriller titled “Backtrace.”

In the new trailer for “Backtrace” we get the basic premise — after suffering a brain injury from a bank heist gone wrong (we weren’t lying), MacDonald (Modine) develops amnesia (see?) and is put into a prison psychiatric ward. Following his seventh year in evaluation, the amnesiac is coerced by an inmate and a ward doctor (Guzman and Meadow Williams) to break out of prison (told ya) and injected with a serum (check!) that forces him to relive the life he’s forgotten. MacDonald must now elude a local detective (Stallone), a tough FBI agent (aren’t they all a-holes in these movies?) and the drug’s dangerous side effects (magic serums always have side effects) in order to recover the stolen money all while confronting his past.

Will he recover the money? Will the FBI get to it first? Was the FBI involved? The trailer leaves us asking so many questions but in a good way. All we know is that there is plenty of Stallone and lots of gunfights. What more do you need?

Starring alongside Stallone, Modine, and Guzman are Christopher McDonald, Colin Egglesfield, Lydia Hull, Tyler Jon Olson, Sergio Rizzuto, and Swen Temmel.

The film, which focuses on memory and betrayal, is set to hit theaters and On-Demand on December 14.
