It’s been a tradition for years now and it continues in 2021—former President of the United States, Barack Obama, has released his top films of the year. And as with previous years, it’s a healthy mix of high-profile gems and things that may have fallen under the radar that he clearly wants to put some extra shine on.

One thing you have to understand is that Obama never ranks the movies, he just presents a list of his “favorite” films. And this year’s list has films that everyone is talking about such as “Pig,” with its amazing Nicolas Cage performance, “The Card Counter” from Paul Schrader, “The Last Duel” from Ridley Scott, and even Mike Mills’ “C’mon, C’mon.” But leave it to Obama to provide a few surprises that will hopefully have film fans expand their horizons a bit. There are international selections such as “Drive My Car,” “The Worst Person in the World,” and “Quo Vadis, Aida?”

If you want one truly surprising pick, you can see that Obama also chose “Old Henry,” which is a drama that seemingly fell under the radar of just about everyone when it was released earlier in the fall.

Regardless of what you think about the man’s politics, each year Barack Obama releases a solid list of films.
