Thanksgiving is finally here. The holiday usually overlooked by the frenzy of Black Friday and the complicated past of colonization still finds its way into many American homes. There are traditions to look forward to and food to fill every belly at the table. But Thanksgiving also offers a time for families to come together, sometimes whether they like it or not.

While some of us at The Playlist are preparing for those awkward conversations and the mutterings of our drunk uncle, Fandor has put our mind at ease. In this supercut edited together by Jacob T. Swinney, Thanksgiving Day moments are spliced together. Leaving us all to be thankful that while the holiday can become awkward, uncomfortable, your favorite nerve-inducing adjective, we at least don’t have to spend a day with these families.
Including clips from “The Ice Storm,” “Addams Family Values,” “Brokeback Mountain,” “Giant,” and the TV series “Dexter,” among many others, the supercut highlights the explosive moments that occur around the dinner table. Cooked turkeys flying, blatantly honest dinner prayers, and yelling across the table are all in store for these families. For some, Thanksgiving isn’t exactly the holiday we all look forward. If the price to pay for eating a hearty meal of roast turkey, potatoes, and cranberry sauce are engaging in an uncomfortable political conversation with the family faction from miles away, a few may count themselves out.
Nevertheless, Thanksgiving exists as a way to be thankful for what we have and who we are with. If only the families in this supercut could see that, maybe their holiday would be as peaceful as a Rockwell painting. But where would the fun and entertainment be in that?
From all of us at The Playlist, Happy Thanksgiving. We’re thankful for our readership and hopeful your holiday won’t be spent like the ones below.
