The last few years have seen a massive spike in “event series” on TV. Networks snatch up some incredible actors and filmmakers, find a story that can be easily told in six or eight hour-long episodes, and wait for the accolades to roll in. That’s exactly what HBO did with “Big Little Lies.” But you know what? Sometimes, those little “limited”/“event series” are so damn popular that they suddenly turn into…series.
After spending millions and millions of dollars ensuring the main cast would come back (along with some new A-listers), HBO is now ready to unleash “Big Little Lies” Season 2. And in the first trailer, you can see that the same intrigue, drama, and incredible acting from the first round of episodes is back for seven more installments. Will there be more lies of varying sizes? Just hang out until June and find out for yourself.
Story aside, the real reason this series gets everyone’s attention is the stellar, award-winning cast. This time, the Monterey Five, which include Madeline (Reese Witherspoon), Celeste (Nicole Kidman), Jane (Shailene Woodley), Renata (Laura Dern) and Bonnie (Zoë Kravitz) , are joined by Celeste’s visiting mother-in-law, Mary Louise (Meryl fuckin’ Streep), and their husbands, Ed (Adam Scott), Nathan (James Tupper) and Gordon (Jeffrey Nordling).
“Big Little Lies” returns for its sophomore season on June 9.
