It’s just one year short of 30 years that stoner, doofus surf boys Bill and Ted wrote a song to save the universe in “Bill And Ted’s Bogus Journey,” but somewhat surprisingly, the duo, still played by Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter, are back for the long-in-the-works threequel, “Bill And Ted Face The Music.” Directed this time by Dean Parisot (“Galaxy Quest,” “Red 2”) perhaps the driving force behind this one, aside from Reeves and Winter who never gave up hope on this sequel for decades is original writers Ed Solomon (known for both original films and “Men In Black”) and Chris Matheson (“Mom and Dad Save the World”).

This time Solomon’s brought along a friend for the ride, executive producer Steven Soderbergh who helped the movie get made (Solomon wrote “Mosaic,” and the upcoming crime drama “Kill Switch”). ‘Face The Music’ in this new Bill and Ted movie may refer to the loveable stoners’ daughters who now help their middle-aged dads Ted (Reeves) and Bill (Winter) write a new song to save the universe in this third film in the time-traveling comedy series. These daughters are Thea (Samara Weaving from “SMILF”) and Billie (Brigette Lundy-Paine from Netflix’s “Atypical”).

“The daughters really love their dads’ music and want to help them,” co-writer Chris Matheson told EW earlier in the year. “They’re trying to help their dads put together this amazing band to save the universe, essentially. You know, Ed and I always imagined Bill and Ted as [not] having any other friends. They just kind of hang out together. They’ve got this kind of weird mind-meld and Billie and Thea have the same thing. They actually really love what their dads are doing and so they decide, well, we’re going to help them, we’re going to help our dads put together an incredible band.”

That’s about as close to an official synopsis, we’re going to get because one hasn’t been released, but “Bill And Ted Face The Music” arrives in theaters… summer 2020. That’s all their committing to in this trailer, but the original intended date is August 21, 2020. If all goes according to plan and if everyone gives up on fighting COVID-19, which seems to be the case, we actually might get it this summer. The film also stars Kid Cudi, Kristen Schaal, Anthony Carrigan, Erinn Hayes, Jayma Mays, Jillian Bell, Holland Taylor, Beck Bennett, William Sadler, Hal Landon Jr., and Amy Stoch.
