While Lars von Trier hasn’t been directly named by Bjork as the Danish director she says sexually harassed her, it’s not a reach to connect the dots. The musician has only starred in a small handful of films, and “Dancer In The Dark” was her most high profile turn, and most notorious. The stories of her battles with the director on the set spread like wildfire, but they largely painted Bjork as a mercurial or unstable actress. However, she alleges she had to turn down von Trier’s advances and was “punished” when she rejected him. The director has denied those claims, with his producer Peter Aalbaek Jensen once again trying to frame Bjork as difficult, stating, “As far as I remember, we were victims, that woman was stronger than both Lars von Trier and me and our company together.”
Courageously refusing to back down, Bjork has issued a new statement on Facebook, she further outlines her experiences with the unnamed director, but the details pretty much make it clear it was Lars von Trier. And the story is pretty awful.
Regarding the shirt incident, it was rumored at the time that Bjork ate pieces of a blouse she refused to wear as part of her character’s costume. A claim that sounded a bit absurd then, but even more surreal and ridiculous now.
Prior to Bjork’s new statement, Lars von Trier has said he wouldn’t provide any further comment. We’ll see if that changes.
