‘Blade’: Kevin Feige Confirms Vampire Superhero Film Will Be R-Rated

To say Marvel Studios has been working to bring a “Blade” reboot film to life is an understatement. There have been multiple filmmakers and screenwriters to come into the project and then leave. As of now, it’s unclear who is working on the film, but it’s been five years since Mahershala Ali came on stage and introduced himself as Blade. That’s a long time. And there’s not really an end in sight. That said, one thing Kevin Feige will confirm about “Blade” is that it’s going to be for adults.

Speaking in an interview with BlackTreeTV, Kevin Feige was asked about the status of “Blade.” More specifically, he was asked if it would carry an R-rating. This question comes as the world is about to be introduced to Marvel Studios’ first R-rated film, “Deadpool & Wolverine.” And according to Feige, an R-rating is coming. In fact, he thinks it’s a necessity.

“For the last few years, we’ve been trying to crack [‘Blade’],” said Feige. “The most important thing for us is not rushing it and making sure we’re making the right ‘Blade’ movie because there were great ‘Blade’ movies years ago. They were all rated R. I think [the rating]—like “Deadpool”—is inherent with ‘Blade.’”

While it’s clear that Marvel Studios is still in the business of pumping out PG-13 fare, there will be exceptions for “Deadpool & Wolverine” and next, “Blade.” But we probably shouldn’t expect the adult rating to accompany just any old Marvel Studios film.

That said, he’s not wrong with suggesting the R-rating is a requirement for “Blade.” The film is about a vampire hunter, and it’s really difficult to make a scary vampire film within the confines of a more family-friendly rating. I mean, there has to be quite a bit of blood, right? And it’s true that the previous “Blade” films all sport the more adult rating.

The current (and probably not last) release date for “Blade” is November 7, 2025.
