With Daniel Craig all done as James Bond after the release of “No Time to Die,” there’s a new era of 007 approaching. We clearly don’t have any idea about who might be taking over the role of Bond, but we also don’t really know who might be behind the camera to helm the first iteration of the new era. And according to Barbara Broccoli, don’t be surprised if we get our first female Bond director.

Speaking on the Crew Call podcast, longtime James Bond film producer Barbara Broccoli commented on the future of the franchise, specifically when it comes to picking a new director for the next film. And while she isn’t sure who it might be, Broccoli is definitely open to a potential female director.
“I’d love to have a female [director],” said Broccoli. “We’d love to do that. I’d love to have a female director. We’ll have to see what happens, we’ll start the process sometime this year I guess, and we’ll see where it takes us.”
Interestingly, while she’s all about possibly hiring a female director for the next James Bond film, Broccoli has talked quite a bit about never having a female James Bond. So, if you’re a 007 fan who is anxiously awaiting a female presence in the Bond films (outside of the co-starring roles), you’ll likely have a better shot hoping for a female director than you would a woman Bond.
As for a guess as to who might be the best woman for the job of directing a Bond film, that’s a wide-open field. Previously, before Cary Fukunaga directed “No Time to Die,” the general consensus is that a British person would get the job, but that isn’t a concern anymore. So, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens later this year.
