Director Emma Seligman made waves with the hilarious comedy “Shiva Baby” and highlighted the talents of actress Rachel Sennott. They clearly hit it off during the movie, and the pair are reuniting for another comedy. The project titled “Bottoms” is set up at MGM’s Orion Pictures and through Elizabeth Banks’ production company Brownstone Productions. Quite an exciting group of actors has been assembled for their new film.
Deadline has revealed that other cast members attached for “Bottoms” include Ayo Edebiri (“Big Mouth”), Marshawn Lynch (“Murderville”), Ruby Cruz (“Castle Rock”), Havana Rose Liu (“No Exit”), Kaia Gerber (“American Horror Story”), Nicholas Galitzine (“The Craft”), Miles Fowler (“Winning Time”), Dagmara Dominczyk (“Succession”), and Punkie Johnson (“Love Life”).
Seligman and Sennott wrote the high school sex comedy, and it “follows two unpopular queer girls in their senior year who start a fight club to try to impress and hook up with cheerleaders.” Not your usual sex comedy, to say the least.
“Bottoms” will begin shooting this spring, and the original comedy should bring the laughs as “Shiva Baby” had a terrific mix of humor, sexuality, sexual identity, and fast-paced, quippy wit.
Sennott will next be seen in the anticipated A24 slasher “Bodies Bodies Bodies” that The Playlist reviewed last month during the SXSW Festival, along with the upcoming indie flick “Brooke & Sam” from writer-director Ally Pankiw.
