Brad Pitt Reportedly Producing Film About Anonymous & The Steubenville Rape Case

Brad Pitt

Brad Pitt has never been afraid of tackling tough subject matter, particularly when it comes to his own Plan B production shingle. They were team behind this year’s Oscar winning Best Picture “12 Years A Slave,” and they have put their weight behind the films of Terrence Malick, a movie about statistics (“Moneyball“) and HBO‘s upcoming AIDS drama “The Normal Heart.” Now, Pitt’s company is looking to tell the story of Steubenville rape case.

Plan B has reportedly acquired the rights to “Anonymous vs. Steubenville,” David Kushner‘s article for Rolling Stone that appeared in last November’s issue. In case you missed the media coverage, hacker collective Anonymous exposed the attempted cover up in Steubenville, Ohio of the rape of 16 year-old girl by two high school football players, who left evidence of their crimes all over social media. It was thanks to Anonymous, who brought the allegations to light, that criminal charges were pressed not just against accused, but also several officials who sought to keep things under wraps. It’s a powerful, controversial story which seems right in the wheelhouse of Plan B.

The film will apparently be told from the perspective of Deric Lostutter, a hacker who helped bring the crimes to light; he now faces ten years in prison. No word on a writer or director for this one yet. [via Defamer]
