Earlier this week reports flew around the web that Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B were looking to make a movie about the thirty-three trapped Chilean miners who were eventually freed and became celebrities, at least for a moment.
Well, not so fast, internets! A rep for Plan B told EW that the reports are a “huge wave of nothing” adding that, “We have shown potential interest, but there have been no serious discussions.” So chalk this one this one up to an idea tapped out by Pitt on his iPhone and sent to some Plan B folks but not much more.
This particular story seems to be one that the media really wants to turn into a movie. Javier Bardem was also linked at one point in another dubious rumor, but while everyone else is waiting for a megawatt star to make this thing happen, director Antonio Recio is already helming the Argentinian production “The 33 Of San Jose” which was being hawked at the American Film Market earlier in the month. The film will boast 32 Chilean actors and one Bolivian thesp, matching the make up of the actual trapped miners and the ending won’t even bother trying to dramatize the rescue and will just use the already stirring news footage from the event. So don’t worry folks, an inspiring story based on true events is definitely on the way (you may just have to read some subtitles).
