Only days away from what is poised to be her first major box office blockbuster, Brie Larson has already signed on to a brand-new project, putting her on everyone’s iPhone/iPad screens.
According to THR, the “Captain Marvel” star has signed on to star in and produce a new original series for Apple, based on the memoirs of a real-life CIA operative. The series, currently untitled, is based on the upcoming book “Life Undercover: Coming of Age in the CIA,” written by Amaryllis Fox. The series is said to be about the struggles of a young woman in the CIA, told through the prisms of her relationships.

Larson is on top of the world right now, with her upcoming Marvel Studios film ready to debut worldwide this weekend. However, before she became Captain Marvel, the actress was probably best known for films like “Short Term 12,” “Kong: Skull Island,” and “Room,” which earned the actress her first Oscar win for Best Actress.
The report states there was quite the bidding war for Larson’s CIA drama series, with Apple coming out on top. Not surprising, considering the tech company is rich beyond measure and has enough change in its couch cushions to fund just about any series or film that comes its way. The odd thing about this announcement is the fact that recent reports have painted Apple’s streaming service as family-friendly, with absolutely no controversial series or films.
Just yesterday, we reported that CEO Tim Cook has been very hands-on with the production of the streaming service’s original content, with mandates that range from eliminating bad language, adult situations, and religious themes to making sure that technology is painted in a positive light. THR says Larson’s series is being described as “provocative,” which seems to be an odd choice for Apple.
Perhaps, the as-yet-unannounced streaming service is going to feature more variety of series than originally thought? We shall find out soon enough, as the tech company is expected to unveil its master plans in the coming weeks.
