Got a Tip?

‘Brightburn’ Final Trailer: Evil Has Found Its Superhero In James Gunn-Produced Horror Film

The best type of horror films feature the easiest descriptions. A homicidal maniac stalks a babysitter on Halloween. An evil force with knife fingers haunts kids in their sleep. A masked killer hunts teens at a summer camp. And “Brightburn” follows suit, as the film is about what would happen if Clark Kent turned out to be evil.

As seen in the final trailer for “Brightburn,” the story is about a childless couple, who live on a farm in a small town. They discover a young baby that crash-landed in the field and raise him as their own. Except this little boy doesn’t turn into the best superhero the world has ever seen. Nope. Instead, the young Brandon breaks bad and terrorizes his small town, leaving bodies in his wake.

It’s a little late in the game for Sony to release a new trailer for “Brightburn,” as the film is less than a week from release. Perhaps, the studio is worried that the buzz hasn’t built as much as it would have liked? Ultimately, the film features the name James Gunn, which is sure to excite genre fans and the footage seems pretty terrifying. Maybe the studio is concerned about the competition-heavy Memorial Weekend? Either way, the trailer is pretty good and gets the point across.

The film stars Elizabeth Banks, David Denman, Jackson A. Dunn, Matt Jones, and Meredith Hagner. “Brightburn” carries the James Gunn seal of approval, as he is executive producer, but the film is actually directed by David Yarovesky and written by Brian Gunn and Mark Gunn.

“Brightburn” arrives in theaters on May 24.

Here’s the synopsis:

What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister? With Brightburn, the visionary filmmaker of Guardians of the Galaxy and Slither presents a startling, subversive take on a radical new genre: superhero horror.
