Caleb Landry Jones returns with a new preview of his second album, “Gadzooks. Vol.1.” Its first single, “The Loon,” is a unique music video format that showcases both his musical venture and acting prowess. It’s a swirling dichotomy of ideas built around experimental filmmaking’s most basic tenets. He looked to director Jacqueline Castel for help while crafting the audio/visual project. The filmmaker worked with Landry Jones previous to the video, but her influence here goes further. Castel helped the artist select the track for his music video before creating a visual experience akin to the striking audio cues. He also utilized partner Katya Zvereva’s expertise in art direction to provide an atmosphere key to the song’s themes.
The actor, whose credits include “Twin Peaks” and “Get Out,” has delved into music before; it’s a medium in which the artist has found added inspiration. For Landry Jones, the process of creating the second album’s songs came about organically. “I wrote it one evening, after work,” he told Cool Hunting. “My songwriting style is kind of about waiting for something to happen, and then when it does, going with it and trying to make it the best I can.”
This second musical project from Landry Jones features many elements that made “The Mother Stone” a compelling experience. Producer Nic Jodoin spent long days with the actor as they put together the new album. Notable among their recording process was the use of taped sessions that took on a life of their own. It speaks to the actor’s commitment that he did all of this while working on the new film “Finch.” The Tom Hanks-led film is set to debut November 5th on Apple TV+.
