Cannes Director Describes Jim Jarmusch’s ‘The Dead Don’t Die’ As “A Very Anti-Trump Film”

One of the summer’s most anticipated films is the zombie comedy from director Jim Jarmusch, titled “The Dead Don’t Die.” From the second it was announced, with its ridiculous all-star cast of actors, fans have been eagerly awaiting what hijinks Jarmusch has in store for them. And as the film prepares for its massive Cannes debut this week, the director of the festival reveals that there’s a social message in the film that you might not be expecting.

Speaking at a recent press conference (via THR), Cannes Film Festival director Thierry Fremaux discussed what he thinks is the message of “The Dead Don’t Die.”

“It’s a very anti-Trump film,” revealed Fremaux. “It talks about American hegemony. America is an extraordinary country. With Jarmusch, we can expect that he is not very happy with what’s happening at present.”

If you just judge the film based on its trailers, you probably wouldn’t see many political messages in the film. However, Jarmusch has been vocal in the past about his distrust of politicians, so it wouldn’t be too crazy to think that he’d likely be opposed to the biggest current political figure in the US – Donald Trump.

Luckily, if you’re not in Cannes and able to make the premiere, film fans will get a chance to see “The Dead Don’t Die” when it arrives in US theaters on June 14.
