While Martin Scorsese is still fairly concerned about the state of cinema in the modern day, that doesn’t mean he has given up on TV. In fact, for his next TV project, he’s teaming up with none other than Steven Spielberg for a series inspired by one of his own films, “Cape Fear.”
According to Deadline, Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese are teaming up to produce a new series based on “Cape Fear.” The show, which is created and showrun by Nick Antosca (“The Act”), will be inspired by the 1991 film of the same name, as well as the 1962 film and the original novel. There is a bit of a twist with the new version of the story.
For those who have read the book (“The Executioners”), as well as the two “Cape Fear” films, the story is pretty straightforward—a killer is released from prison and is out to stalk and torment the people who put him there. In the original book and the two films, a married couple is stalked, but only the husband is the lawyer who put the deranged man behind bars. In the new version—get ready for it—both the husband and the wife are lawyers. Kidding aside, it’s a fairly easy premise to adapt and make new, so it’s exciting to see what other changes can be made.
As mentioned, Antosca is probably best known for the award-winning true-crime series, “The Act.” He’s also the creator of the Netflix series, “Brand New Cherry Flavor.” Previously, he was a writer on shows such as “Teen Wolf” and “Hannibal.”
Obviously, we’re still early in the process, as we don’t even know which network/streamer will grab the rights to this project. So, a release date is still unknown.
