Got a Tip?

Cate Blanchett To Direct Aussie TV Series ‘Stateless’

Knight Of CupsCate Blanchett has been looking to bring her talents behind the camera. In 2013 she signed up to make her feature directorial debut with the Oren Moverman penned adaptation of  Herman Koch‘s acclaimed novel "The Dinner," and while that’s still in development, there hasn’t been much movement on it. But it seems television is providing the creative foundation for Blanchett to open up her director’s chair.

The actress has just received development funding from Screen Australia for "Stateless," an Australian TV series she will direct. Elise McCreadie is penning the script that will tell the true story of Cornelia Rau, a woman suffering from mental illness who escaped the clutches of a cult, only to become caught up in Australia’s legal system, suspected of being an illegal immigrant. No other details in terms of episode length or even if Blanchett will take a role, but the wheels are certainly moving.

And while Blanchett may be a newcomer to film and TV directing, she’s a veteran of the theater world, so the transition should be fairly seamless. [Deadline]
