Got a Tip?

Cate Blanchett Will Be Joined By A Great Cast In New Immigration Drama Series ‘Stateless’

Cate Blanchett has pretty much conquered film, at this point. She’s been nominated for six Oscars, winning two, and has earned the admiration from just about every film fan on the planet. So, with that in mind, it appears that Blanchett is ready to take on TV with her newest project, “Stateless.”

The Wrap is reporting that Blanchett has signed on to produce and star in the upcoming Australian limited series “Stateless.” The show will follow the story of four strangers that are being detained in an Australian immigration center in the desert. As you might expect, it’s through this shared hardship that four disparate people forge emotional connections.

“Stateless” is co-created by Blanchett, along with Tony Ayres and Elise McCredie. The actress has also enlisted her husband, Andrew Upton, to produce the film through their production company.

“Whilst this story centers on Australia, the dilemmas that it explores through four absorbing characters will resonate globally: the desire for personal freedom, the need for social stability, an escalating lack of faith in the political process and the deeply unsettling impact this has on individual lives,” Blanchett said.

As mentioned, Blanchett has cemented a place among the very best actors in the world, but is primarily known for her film work. However, recently, she appeared in an episode of the critically-acclaimed series “Documentary Now!” and has already signed on to star in the upcoming limited series “Mrs. America” for FX. So, it appears that TV is her next conquest.

Blanchett was able to rally a pretty great cast for her limited series. Joining the actress are Yvonne Strahovski, Dominic West, Jai Courtney, Asher Keddie, Fayssal Bazzi, Rachel House, Kate Box, Clarence Ryan, Claude Jabbour, Rose Riley, and Helana Sawires.

A release date hasn’t been set, but outside of Australia, the series will be distributed by NBCUniversal. Production is set to begin in June.
