Cee-Lo Green Will Go Method & Surprise Everyone By Playing A Hip Hop Star In 'Can A Song Save Your Life?'

nullLet's just pause for a moment. Did anyone back in the mid-90s think that Cee-Lo from Goodie Mob would become a massive music star and celebrity on his own? Even now it's kind of hard to believe, but combine the man's clearly undeniable charisma, some hit records with Gnarls Barkley, and the breakup song everyone and their mother now has on their iPod ("Fuck You") and well, now you have Cee-Lo Green. Musician, "The Voice" host, and now, burgeoning actor.

Having done some voice roles and with stint in the upcoming musical remake "Sparkle," Cee-Lo Green has nabbed a part in "Once" director John Carney's "Can A Song Save Your Life?" But it's baby steps, folks, into this whole acting game. Green will be playing something he knows: a very successful hip hop artist named Troublegum. The film, executive-produced by Judd Apatow, tells the tale of a singer who moves to New York City with her boyfriend to pursue a music career, gets dumped by her boyfriend when he signs a solo contract, but gets discovered by a music producer. Cee-Lo Green joins an impressive cast that includes Keira Knightley, Mark Ruffalo, Hailee Steinfeld and fellow "The Voice" judge, Adam Levine

Production on the movie kicks off next week in New York City. [Variety]
