‘Denali’: Charlie Hunnam & Director Max Winkler To Reteam For A Film About A Man’s Bond With His Dog

While superheroes seem to dominate the box office, there’s no denying that films about humans and their pet dogs are a subgenre that has stood the test of time and proven to be big hits with film fans, if done right. And that’s exactly what actor Charlie Hunnam and filmmaker Max Winkler are hoping for with the upcoming film, “Denali.”

According to Deadline, Hunnam is set to star in “Denali,” which will be written and directed by Winkler. The film is based on Ben Moon’s memoir, “Denali: A Man A Dog, A Friendship Of A Lifetime,” and tells the story of the photographer and his 15-year bond with his rescue dog. The heartwarming story follows the two as they drive across the country and deal with the tribulations that come their way, including medical issues for both the human companion and his four-legged friend. No doubt about it, “Denali” is going to be a tear-jerker.

The new film reunites Hunnam and Winkler, who previously worked on the film, “Jungleland.” That boxing drama has yet to be released but also stars Jack O’Connell and Jessica Barden. Before that, Hunnam was probably best known for his starring role in FX’s “Sons of Anarchy,” as well as films such as “Pacific Rim” and “The Lost City of Z.” Winkler, on the other hand, helmed a number of episodes for TV series such as “Fresh Off the Boat” and “The New Girl,” as well as feature films like “Flower” and “Ceremony.”

There’s no release date set for “Denali,” as the film is still in the early stages of development, but before Hunnam can join this new film, he’ll have to finish filming the series “Shantaram” for Apple TV+.
