Charlize Theron is enjoying a particularly high profile at the moment thanks to a couple of big roles in “Prometheus” and “Snow White and the Huntsman” – just think how much we’d be talking about her right now if she’d have justifiably picked up an Oscar nomination earlier in the year for her performance in “Young Adult." Now that all of those films have (just about) made their way to theatres and can be judged on their merits, we can now turn our attention to some of her upcoming projects including George Miller’s “Mad Max: Fury Road.”
While in Cannes Tom Hardy (the film’s lead) said that there was still no start date for the project, but Theron was quoted just a few days later as saying that they would be filming in Namibia in a week’s time. Two weeks on, Theron has spoken again about a different start date and it sounds like she’s raring to go. “I leave in like two and a half weeks and we start shooting I think around Mid-July in Namibia,” she told Press Association (via ScreenRant). “I’m f**king dying, too, it’s been three years. It’s time to skin this cat already, so yeah, I’m very excited about it.”
We’re hoping that it speaks volumes about the strength of the script that Theron’s never walked away despite it nearly scuppering her involvement with “Young Adult” and “Prometheus.” And the actress also revealed that the film won’t be a sequel or a prequel. So what is it then? "Like with 'Snow White And The Huntsman,' there is so much potential to re-imagine that world. It's such an interesting world and how much it still resonates today after 20 years or whatever it's been. We're going back to that world but this is not a prequel or sequel or anything like that." We’re a little confused, but we’re sure all will soon become clear. And it fits into George Miller's revelation last fall that 'Fury Road' could be the start of a potential new trilogy. So we'll see how that plays out.
And, finally, in other Charlize Theron-related news, THR reports that in the wake of History’s record-breaking viewing figures for their “Hatfields and McCoys” miniseries, Theron is shopping around a series (through her production company Denver and Delilah) that puts a modern-day spin on the feuding families. That may be a fairly attractive prospect for some networks right now considering the success of the miniseries, and Theron may finally be able to focus on some future projects with a greater degree of clarity now that she knows exactly when and where 'Mad Max' is happening.
