Chris Evans Says 'Captain America 2' Is His Favorite MCU Film

The movies of Marvel may have a sliding scale of entertainment value and quality, but it’s hard to argue that “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” isn’t one of their strongest efforts to date. Chris Evans, recently speaking at The Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle (via Variety), agrees. Detailing why ‘The Winter Soldier’ remains his favorite MCU installment during his long tenure as the hero Steve Rogers, Evans said everything clicked in the “satisfying experience.”

“It’s my personal favorite Marvel movie that I was a part of. It’s not just for the movie itself but the experience,” the former Marvel actor said. “The first film, I was so nervous. You know what you’re stepping into, and as a result, you’re playing defense, and you’re playing not to lose. When ‘Winter Solider’ came around, we were playing to win. And it’s the first movie with the Russo Brothers. We were taking more risks, and the character felt more fleshed out. It was one of the more satisfying experiences I’ve had in my Marvel run.”

One of the interesting factors of the “Captain America” sequel was how Marvel combined elements of a Nick Fury movie in development based on the comic run “Nick Fury Vs. S.H.I.E.L.D.” In the final film, Fury, Rogers, and Natasha Romanoff become targets of HYDRA as they infest the government agency and want to keep their evil plot secret from the public. It is thought that some of those twists came from the movie meant for Samuel L. Jackson.

We shouldn’t be expecting a miraculous return of Evans anytime soon. Last year at C2E2 in Chicago, Evans dispelled rumors/reports that he was planning a grand return as Steve Rogers (Now an extremely old man after his time-traveling in “Avengers Endgame”), “As much as I’m connected to that role and love telling those stories and working with those people, it doesn’t quite feel right right now.”

In the comics, an elderly Rogers could still swing the shield around. Still, with Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson now in the superhero mantle set to lead the solo franchise with next year’s “Captain America: Brave New World,” it seems unlikely to happen any time soon. “Captain America 4” is set to be released on February 14, 2025, and there is hope that Harrison Ford’s President Thunderbolt Ross will make his big screen debut as The Red Hulk alongside the confirmed return of Hulk villain The Leader, played by Tim Blake Nelson.
