As production rolls on Ben Affleck‘s much-talked-about “Argo,” the film has added three more supporting players to its already lengthy credit scroll.

Actors Chris Messina, Michael Parks, and Richard Kind have been announced as joining the cast as the film begins shooting today and it looks as if Affleck has assembled himself another ace acting team in line with those of his previous directorial outings “Gone Baby Gone” and the much loved “The Town.” “Argo” centers on the real-life C.I.A. plan to rescue a group of diplomats from Tehran after the 1979 Iranian revolution by claiming that they were part of a Hollywood movie crew shooting a film. The premise of “Argo” pretty much sells itself, but the casting doesn’t hurt either.

Knowing that Affleck already has an eye for gathering a varied ensemble, it’ll be something to see the mix of seasoned vets and upcomers that have been brought together for the pic, including Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, Alan Arkin, Scoot McNairy, Kyle Chandler, Taylor Schilling, Nelson Franklin and Tate Donovan.

Parks, who’s receiving the majority of whatever praise Kevin Smith‘s bible-thumping horror film “Red State” has acquired, is perhaps the most enticing addition to this already great cast. Messina, who’s probably best known for his role in “Vicky Christina Barcelona,” has proven he has some serious acting chops. And for those “Spin City” and “A Serious Man” fans out there, the addition of the great character actor Richard Kind is certainly welcome.

Though there is no release date pegged yet, with filming now underway, look for this to pop up during next fall’s awards season. [via The Film Stage]
