Got a Tip?

Cobie Smulders, Michael Ian Black & More Join David Wain’s ‘They Came Together’

nullAs if it didn’t have enough comedic talent already, the rom-com spoof/deconstruction “They Came Together” has added “How I Met Your Mother” star Cobie Smulders and ”The State” veteran Michael Ian Black.

The micro-budget film, written by “Wet Hot American Summer” creators David Wain and Michael Showalter, and Wain’s directorial follow-up to “Wanderlust,” stars Amy Poehler as Molly, who runs a knick-knack shop, and comes into conflict with Joel (Paul Rudd), who works for the corporation trying to shut her store down. The “You’ve Got Mail”-esque premise sounds like it could be the perfect jumping off point for Wain and Showalter to tackle all kinds of rom-com conventions.

Noureen DeWulf, from the upcoming FX show “Anger Management,” will play Rudd’s assistant, and joins the previously announced “New Girl” stand-out Max Greenfield, Ed Helms and Jason Mantzoukas (“The Dictator”) in what is shaping up to be a pretty solid ensemble. Shooting is set to start soon on “They Came Together” to take advantage of everyone’s TV hiatuses, and we should see the finished product within the next twelve months. [THR]
