Darren Aronofsky’s ‘Jackie’; Ryan Reynolds/Denzel Washington Vehicle ‘Safe House & Wentworth Miller’s ‘Stoker’ Also Ranked In The Top Ten
The annual Black List of the best unproduced screenplays in Hollywood has hit and the top ten is filled with a number of projects that have been gaining heat through the year.
Topping things off is “College Republicans” by Wes Jones. The dramedy follows a young Karl Rove vying for the position of chief campus conservative under the guidance of one Lee Atwater, who’s his campaign manager. The script is certainly a hot one and back in October Shia LaBeouf and Richard Linklater were said to be circling the project.
Coming in second place is Noah Oppenheim‘s biopic “Jackie” that has had Darren Aronofsky and Rachel Weisz attached. The project, originally set to be executive produced by Steven Spielberg for HBO, is a look at the famed first lady in the four days between JFK’s assassination and his burial. We read the script and tonally, found it be similar to “The Queen” as it looks behind the scenes at the aftermath of the death of one of the most public figures in the world, from a very private perspective. As might be expected, by focusing on Jackie Kennedy, it’s a little more emotionally raw than Stephen Frears‘ film, but still manages to include the political wranglings and conflicts that result. But of course, with Aronofsky and Weisz recently splitting and with the helmer occupied with “The Wolverine” for the foreseeable future, that one might be a way off.
Anyhow, you can take a look at the full list below the jump and you’ll see some familiar titles including the David Guggenheim scribed “Safe House” which had pretty much everyone young actor in Hollywood circling it before Ryan Reynolds snagged the co-starring role, Wentworth Miller‘s “Stoker” and the economic crisis drama “Margin Call” which premieres at Sundance next month.
