Contest Giveaway: 10 Pairs Of Tickets To The New York City Advance Screening Of 'Rubber'

Director Quentin Dupieux, aka Mr. Oizo, Will Attend For Q&A

“Are you tired of the expected?” Funny haha on the pun-heavy tagline, but really, this is one of the most absurd-sounding film concepts we’ve heard in ages, which of course makes it completely intriguing.

Dubbed (by us) as an arthouse/b-movie thriller, “Rubber” is the sophomore feature-length effort of French electro-house wizard Mr. Oizo. Yes, he makes beats and films. You probably remember him when his track “Flat Beat” was used as the backdrop to the iconic Garth Jennings-helmed Levi’s ad that featured a cute little yellow puppet named Flat Eric.

Dupieux directed his first full-length film, “Steak” in 2007, and unveiled his follow-up, “Rubber” at Cannes last year which is certainly not a bad place to debut a picture. The story follows Robert, an abandoned tire that comes to life, and discovers it has telepathic powers, leaving a swathe of destruction in its wake. Yes, an inanimate tire. It gets better: he soon sets his sights on a desert town; in particular, a mysterious woman (Roxane Mesquida from “Kaboom“) becomes his obsession.

So yes, it’s out there and there will be an advanced screening for “Rubber” this Thursday (February 3) in New York at the IFC Center. The Playlist would like to offer you, our New York readers, tickets to the event. We now have 10 pairs of tickets left to give away. Contest is now closed, thanks for playing.

Screening information for Thursday below the jump, plus the email address of where to send your request. It’s first come first served – bonne chance! You can watch the nutty trailer here and yes, as you might expect, Dupieux provided the score in his Mr. Oizo guise, in collaboration with Ed Banger label mate Gaspard Augé, one half of Justice.
