Contest: Win A Poster For 'Sugar'; The Follow-Up Film By The Makers Of 'Half Nelson'

Or…Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden Working On “Secret” Project

Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden, the winning writing-directing team behind “Half Nelson” — one of our favorite indies from the last few years which earned Ryan Gosling his first Academy Award nomination — have new film in theaters this weekend (April 3) called “Sugar” coming out in limited release via Sony Pictures Classics.

The film chronicles the life of a baseball hopeful from the Dominican Republic who is chosen to play in the U.S. minor leagues, but soon finds himself alienated and lost away from home in a foreign land. We saw the film last September at the Toronto Film Festival.

We have one “Sugar” poster (pictured) to give away. All one needs to do is email the answer to this simple question: What Brooklyn-based indie-rock band are featured in the film? The answer is on our blog, just use the search function. Contest closed. Thanks for playing.

Fleck and Boden are working on three projects currently, an adaptation of the novel, “Special Topics in Calamity Physics” for Miramax and “It’s Kind of a Funny Story” for MTV Films.

According to an interview with Coming Soon, the duo are still working on the scripts. “They’re at various stages; hopefully we’ll make one of those this year sometime,” Fleck said.

They’re also working on a third, top-secret project they refuse to talk about, “Yeah, we’re working on something that nobody else knows about,” he said, while Boden added, “Very highly secretive.”

Then again, apparently the idea of “Sugar” was apparently kept heavily under wraps too, but really, was that necessary? Either way, they’re always interesting filmmakers to keep an eye out for. “Sugar” hits theaters April 3 in limited release. Here’s the trailer again if you missed it.
