Daisy Ridley Teases New 'Star Wars' Film Is "Not What I Expected" But She's "Very Excited"

During this year’s Star Wars Celebration, Lucasfilm finally gave some definitive news about what to expect on the big screen with the galaxy far, far away. We have a movie from Dave Filoni, which is expected to be an “Avengers”-style convergence of all the live-action TV shows. Then there’s a new film from James Mangold, which is expected to take place thousands of years before the first ‘Star Wars’ film. And finally, and perhaps most surprising, was the announcement of a new sequel starring none other than Rey herself, Daisy Ridley. But since then, we haven’t learned much of anything. And Ridley is only able to tease.

Speaking to Collider, Daisy Ridley was asked about the status of the new ‘Star Wars’ film and what she can tease about it. First, she talked about going to the aforementioned Star Wars Celebration, where she was brought out on stage during the announcement of her next film. Apparently, she was actually nervous about the announcement, but the reception she received from the fans put her at ease.

“It was such a nice reception,” Ridley said about the announcement at Celebration. “I was shitting myself before I went on stage, because no one knew I was going to that. No one knew I was going to Celebration, bar like Kathy [Kennedy] and there were a couple of people. I was so nervous. Oh my God. It was such a wonderful reception.”

When she talked about the new ‘Star Wars’ project, she clearly wasn’t going to give away any spoilers, but she did say that the story is surprising.

“I’m very excited. The story is really cool,” she said. “I’m waiting to read a script because, obviously, I don’t have any other updates. It’s not what I expected, but I’m very excited.”

It’s really unclear what we might see in the proposed new sequel film. We do know that it is expected to be directed by “Ms. Marvel” filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. We also know that Damon Lindelof was initially involved but ended up leaving after turning in a script. That script was then reportedly rewritten by Steven Knight. But again, the content of the story is a big mystery.

Regardless, of all of the “Star Wars” projects in development, this might be the most interesting just because it continues a story which wasn’t very well received by fans. It’ll be intriguing to witness how fans respond to a new Rey tale. Because honestly, it doesn’t seem like there are many people out there begging for it. But hey, if Daisy Ridley is excited, maybe there is hope in the galaxy far, far away.
