With the entry to the X-Men into the MCU, there’s been plenty of rumors of who would play a new rendition of the fan-favorite Wolverine. Sure, Hugh Jackman returns to reprise his role as Logan for “Deadpool 3,” but that may be a one-off. And with Marvel prepping meetings with writers about an upcoming “X-Men” film, it’s clear Kevin Feige & co. have bigger plans than simply Jackman and others coming back to play their mutants all over again.

Plenty of names have already been bandied about in the rumor mill for a new Wolverine: Taron Egerton, Scott Eastwood, and Daniel Radcliffe. But Radcliffe isn’t having any of that. EW reports that in a Vanity Fair recent lie detector interview with his “Merrily We Roll Along” cast members Jonathan Groff and Lindsay Mendez, Radcliffe shot down rumors that he’s in talks to play Logan/Wolverine. What’s more, he also denied he got in insane shape while filming “Miracle Workers” Season 4 to prepare for the part. No, the truth is much more simple: Radcliffe is in peak physical condition because he comes from a family of fitness freaks. It has nothing to do with Wolverine or the X-Men at all.
“No,” Radcliffe confirmed when asked about the Wolverine casting rumor. But as for why he’s in such great shape, Radcliffe replied, “Yes. I got buff because I am obsessive, and I want to… You’ve seen my parents, they’re like insane fitness people,” he said. “So that’s just been passed on. But no. No Wolverine. Flattered, but no.” Guess that means it’s back to the drawing board for the rumor-mongers; but let’s be honest, is the former “Harry Potter” star really a good choice to play Logan/Wolverine anyways?
Radcliffe is no stranger to all sorts of stories rumors about him on the internet. He talked about a few he’s dealt with over the years during the VF interview. “There’s a lot of shipping of Harry and Draco [Malfoy] as characters together,” he told Groff and Mendez. “So I’ve read some of that.” But there’s other, stranger ones beyond “Harry Potter” fan-fiction. “What’s the weirdest story that I’ve read about myself? That I had the [UK Special Air Service] walk my dogs. That I had special beer brewed for myself by monks in a monastery in Belgium. That I used to get my assistant to hold my scripts in the mirror so I could read it while I was having makeup done — even though that doesn’t make f—ing sense because I wouldn’t be able to read mirror writing. There’s a long list.”
“Merrily We Roll Along” with Radcliffe, Groff, and Mendez is playing on Broadway now. And as for the future of the X-Men in the MCU, that’s anyone’s guess at this point. Wolverine and other mutants are on the way, but how they’ll be introduced (and who will play them) remains a mystery. Maybe some of those questions will get answered in “Deadpool 3,” whenever it comes out. Check out the Vanity Fair lie detector interview with Radcliffe below.
