Danny Ramirez Joins Joaquin Phoenix On Todd Haynes' Upcoming Detective Film

Is Danny Ramirez poised for a breakout? The “Top Gun: Maverick” actor is everywhere these days, including “Black Mirror” Season 6, Sundance darling “Winner,” and the upcoming queer romance “From Chestnut.” And that list doesn’t include upcoming roles in “Captain America: Brave New World” and “The Last Of Us” Season 2 either. But it may be a future project from master director Todd Haynes that puts Ramirez’s Hollywood star on the rise even further…

Deadline reports that Ramirez will star alongside Joaquin Phoenix in Todd Haynes‘ next picture.  No word on when Haynes will start shooting it, but his follow-up to last year’s “May December” is in the midst of its casting process, so expect things to start rolling soon. Described as a detective film set in the 1930s, Phoenix and Ramirez will play intense Californian lovers on their way to Mexico; official plot details remain under wraps.  As per usual, Christine Vachon will produce Haynes’ latest, along with Pam Koffler.  Haynes developed the original screenplay with Phoenix and Jon Raymond.

It was only a matter of time before Ramirez worked with a bonafide auteur like Haynes. 2022 was a breakout year for Ramirez, as “Top Gun: Maverick” put him on the map. But he also starred in four other films that year, including “No Exit” and “Stars At Noon,” as well as an episode of “Tales Of The Walking Dead.” But the actor has been on the rise for a while now; “The Falcon And The Winter Soldier” initiated him into the MCU back in 2021, and he’ll reprise his role as Sam Wilson’s comrade Joaquin Torres in “Brave New World” next February.

Stay tuned for more details on Todd Haynes’ latest.  And expect all eyes to be on it whenever it comes out thanks to the success of “May December,” Phoenix’s upcoming turns in “Joker: Folie á Deux” and “Eddington,” and Ramirez’s rising star power.
