‘Daredevil: Born Again’: Vincent D’Onofrio Says Marvel Is Bringing Netflix Continuity To MCU After Creative Overhaul

Maybe it’s the fact that he’s worked in Hollywood for decades now, but Vincent D’Onofrio isn’t shy of talking about his Marvel work. Unlike some of the younger actors who avoid Marvel questions like the plague, the Kingpin actor is happy to shed some light on the behind-the-scenes stuff going on at Marvel Studios. And apparently, there’s quite a bit to talk about when it comes to “Daredevil: Born Again.”

In a new interview with THR, where he discusses the end of “Echo,” Vincent D’Onofrio talked about where we might see his character, Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin, go in the future. Though typically there’s some mystery about where Marvel characters will show up, we all know the actor is part of the cast of the upcoming series, “Daredevil: Born Again.” But there are still quite a few questions surrounding that project, as the series halted production midway through and was reportedly completely reworked with a new showrunner (Dario Scardapane, who worked on Netflix’sThe Punisher”) and new directors (Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, who worked on “Loki” Season 2 and “Moon Knight”). And as part of the overhaul, it appears Marvel Studios is finally ready to incorporate some of that Netflix “Daredevil” lore.

For those who aren’t familiar with the ins and outs of Marvel’s TV world, back before Disney+ launched, Marvel Studios only worked on films and didn’t have a say in what happened with the TV shows. So, series on Netflix, such as “Daredevil,” “The Defenders,” “Jessica Jones,” and “The Punisher,” weren’t being controlled by Kevin Feige and his crew. So, when Feige took over TV operations, he made it seem as if all of that continuity was getting wiped clean and they were going to start fresh. And when characters like Daredevil and Kingpin showed up in recent films and TV shows, it was ambiguous whether or not they were the same characters from the original series (even though Charlie Cox and D’Onofrio reprised their roles).

Well, according to D’Onofrio, there’s no ambiguity anymore. All of that continuity is going to carry over into the MCU proper.

“During our restart of all the creative on ‘Daredevil: Born Again,’ all the creatives got together and said, ‘Look, this is how we’ve got to do it now,’” D’Onofrio explained. “So we are for sure only speaking about it in terms of being directly connected to the original ‘Daredevil,’ and that’s a great thing. It brings in a lot of cool stories and all the collateral story that happened in those original three seasons.”

And it appears the actor isn’t just excited by adding all of that lore from his original “Daredevil” work. Another aspect of the relaunch that D’Onofrio is excited about is working with directors Benson and Moorhead.

“I’m a huge fan of those guys, and I talk to them all the time now,” he said. “I’m so happy that they’re doing this show. I’m just so happy about it. When I heard that, I was like, ‘OK, not only are we switching things up, but the bosses are doing the right thing for us.’ They’ve given us their hottest talent, and that’s pretty cool. So the first thing I did was thank them. I thanked Kevin [Feige] for doing that and sticking with Charlie and I. It’s a pretty amazing thing.”

We still don’t have a firm idea about when we might see “Daredevil: Born Again” arrive on Disney+, or how it will be changed from its original announcement. When it was first revealed, we learned it was going to be 18 episodes, split over two eight-episode “seasons.” Will that change? Who knows? But Marvel Studios has said the series will likely debut in 2025.
