Dave Annabale (ABC’s “Brothers and Sisters”) is in negotiations to join the cast of “What’s Your Number,” the romantic comedy that stars Anna Faris, Chris Evans, Zachary Quinto and Joel McHale. We’re kind of waiting for the announcement when they say Chris Evans drops out because of scheduling commitments to “Captain America: The First Avenger,” but maybe we’re just cynical fatalists.
We sorta love Faris as a comedic lead, she was so damn good in the somewhat vile, “Observe & Report,” but she was also really friggin funny in the fairly mediocre “The House Bunny,” “Mama’s Boy,” and “Smiley Face” (the latter of which admittedly was gut-bustingly funny for about 20 minutes; alas the movie was 90 min total).
Will this be the picture that finally catches up to her excellent comedic chops and timing? The film follows a woman (Faris) who digs through her sexual past to find Mr. Right (sounds vaguely familiar to the sadly scuttled Richard Linklater project “Liars A-E,” which was one of our favorite romantic comedy scripts of last year — someone bring that one back to life). The script was penned by Jennifer Crittenden (who wrote episodes of “Arrested Development” and “Seinfeld”) and Gabrielle Allan (a writer on “Scrubs”).
Not a bad pair. Here’s to hoping.
