David Gordon Green has done it all, from indie dramas to big studio comedies to TV work, and everything in between. However, one itch he’s eager to scratch is a horror movie. For a while he was attached to helm the remake of “Suspiria,” before that project fell into the hands of Luca Guadagnino (and it’s already in post). But Green, never one to be short on ambition, is deciding to tackle another iconic scare flick.
John Carpenter himself has revealed Green will helm the developing redo of “Halloweeen.” The filmmaker will co-write the script with his longtime friend and collaborator Danny McBride, with Carpenter lending his voice and approval to everything as the executive producer. While some horror buffs will recoil at this development, I think it’s potentially exciting. And I’d even argue that the 1978 original, while certainly classic, is also very much of its time and a contemporary version with a new vision for Michael Myers has plenty of space to stand on its own. It’ll be interesting to see what a director not normally associated with genre fare might bring to the table.
“Halloween” is moving steadily along, and has been pegged to open on October 19, 2018. So expect more news to come, and in case you forgot, Green’s Boston marathon bombing movie “Stronger” starring Jake Gyllenhaal is in the can, and just waiting for a release date.
