With David O. Russell landing his first Oscar nomination thanks to "The Fighter," it looks like the director is going to take another swing at the awards season as The Weinstein Company have scheduled his next effort, "The Silver Linings Playbook," with a November 21, 2012 release.
The date is the Wednesday before the Thanksgiving weekend next year, which is a favorite play by the Weinsteins who this year will start rollouts of "My Week With Marilyn" and "The Artist" during the holiday, and in 2010 got a little movie you might have heard of called "The King's Speech" started around the same frame.
The movie definitely won't be lacking in star power to help get the word out. Based on the book by Matthew Quick, the story centers on Pat Peoples (Bradley Cooper), a former high school teacher who, after being released from a four-year stint in a mental institution, moves back in with his mother, then seeks to reinvent himself, finding the titular silver linings in his life. Jennifer Lawrence will play the love interest for Pat, with Julia Stiles as her older sister. Jacki Weaver and Robert De Niro also star in the film, with things rounded out by motormouth Chris Tucker.
We would assume that with the November date, the Weinsteins will take the movie on an extended festival run through Venice, Telluride, Toronto and New York to get the word out. It's the second big Oscar date for 2012 from the Weinsteins, who also have Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" slated for Christmas Day.
