'Dead Ringers' Trailer: Rachel Weisz Plays Twin Doctors Pushing The Limits Of Women's Healthcare In Prime Video's New Series

David Cronenberg’s 1988 thriller, “Dead Ringers,” starring Jeremy Irons, isn’t in most Top 3 lists for the filmmaker. Sure, there are fans of the original, but it doesn’t have the devoted fanbase as films such as “The Fly,” “Crash,” “Scanners,” and “A History of Violence,” for example. However, much like his other works, “Dead Ringers” has a brilliant premise, and that seed of the story is taken in a new direction in Prime Video’s new series remake of the film.

As seen in the trailer for the “Dead Ringers” series, the show follows the story of two innovative and wild twin doctors (both played by Rachel Weisz) as they explore the outer limits of medicine, as well as their own desires. However, this version of the story aims to take a look at women’s healthcare and more modern topics.

Joining Rachel Weisz in the cast are Britne Oldford, Poppy Liu, Michael Chernus, Jennifer Ehle, and Emily Meade. Filmmaker Sean Durkin directs three of the episodes while other episodes are helmed by Karena Evans, Lauren Wolkstein, and Karyn Kusama. The series is written and produced by Alice Birch, who is probably best known for her work on series such as “Normal People” and “Conversations with Friends.”

“Dead Ringers” debuts on Prime Video on April 21. You can watch the trailer below.

Here’s the synopsis:

A modern take on David Cronenberg’s 1988 thriller starring Jeremy Irons, Dead Ringers stars Rachel Weisz playing the double-lead roles of Elliot and Beverly Mantle, twins who share everything: drugs, lovers, and an unapologetic desire to do whatever it takes—including pushing the boundaries of medical ethics—in an effort to challenge antiquated practices and bring women’s health care to the forefront.
