‘Deadpool & Wolverine’: Shawn Levy Says The Film Features “A Lot” Of Secret Characters

One of the biggest questions surrounding “Deadpool & Wolverine” isn’t about how popular the film is going to be—early forecasts show the film being massive—but instead about who is going to show up in the movie from the old era of 20th Century Fox and Marvel. Will Ben Affleck show up as Daredevil? Will Chris Evans appear as the Human Torch from the old “Fantastic Four” films? Jennifer Garner as Elektra? The film has heavily teased that there will be a sizable number of cameos, considering it looks like the end of the road for the Fox/Marvel “X-Men” universe. And according to the director of “Deadpool & Wolverine,” some of those cameo rumors are true. Others are way off.

Speaking to EW, Shawn Levy discussed all the secret cameos in “Deadpool & Wolverine.” As we have seen in the trailers for the movie, Marvel’s TVA (Time Variance Authority) is a major part of the film, which means we’re likely going to see our heroes bouncing around to various universes, which means we will likely see some fun cameos. Actually, not “some.” More like “a lot.”

“We didn’t want any of the cameos or characters to be the story of the movie. But they are peppered in throughout,” teased Levy. “There’s a lot of characters. The internet is a delight of rumors about the multitude of character cameos that are in this movie. Some rumors are true, some are way off base.”

We have already seen some of the cameos spoiled by the marketing. We have seen Tyler Mane returning as Sabretooth, as well as Aaron Stanford’s Pyro. And the set leaks seemingly confirmed several others. But even still, it sounds as if we’ve only just seen the tip of the cameo iceberg.

Stanford even addressed his cameo, seemingly the only person allowed to speak about it since it was revealed.

“I was just very happy to even have a costume,” Stanford said of his new look in the film. “In the original ‘X-Men’ films, Pyro gets really shortchanged in terms of a costume. In ‘X2,’ we start off with Pyro in Xavier’s School for Gifted Mutants. The SWAT team bursts in in the middle of the night, and we have to flee. So, for half the movie, I’m in my jammies. I never got the cool leather and tactical suit that all the X-Men wear. In ‘X3,’ I was basically just dressed in an ensemble from Hot Topic. So to have him be in a proper superhero costume that was actually taken from the comics themselves was very cool.”

We don’t have too much longer to wait to see “Deadpool & Wolverine” ourselves. The film will be released in theaters on July 26.
