Judging by the absolutely massive opening weekend, people seem to really be excited by “Deadpool & Wolverine.” A big part of that excitement has to do with the various cameos in the film. And perhaps the most well-executed cameo featured none other than Chris Evans

In “Deadpool & Wolverine,” the film does a bit of a fake out regarding Evans. At first, the film presents it as if Captain America is going to show up and save the day. Instead, you get Chris Evans’ version of Johnny Storm, aka Human Torch. And then eventually, he literally gets his skin removed by Cassandra Nova. It’s horrifying and hilarious at the same time. According to a new interview with EW, the only reason Chris Evans agreed to show up for the film was because of his belief in Ryan Reynolds

“I was so excited,” Evans said. “Ryan’s a buddy. He just shot me a text saying, ‘Listen, might be a long shot, but would you have any interest in reprising something from 20 years ago?’ I said, ‘Oh my God! Of course.’”

He added, “Honestly, Ryan might be the only guy that I would’ve done it for because he’s just got the Midas touch. His self-awareness makes him almost invincible. He makes the joke before the audience gets a chance to make the joke, so if you’re going to revisit a character and you have to find a way to make it work, Ryan’s humor makes just about everything work, so you feel an automatic sense of safety.”

Evans’ Human Torch was one of the few positives in that version of “Fantastic Four” from the 2000s. So, while it wasn’t the return of Captain America that people thought it might be, it was still fun to see Johnny Storm return one more time.

Obviously, Evans isn’t the only cameo in the film. And even though we’re talking about spoilers, we’re not going to spoil any extra stuff. So, if you want to see Chris Evans’ Human Torch return and then quickly die, you can watch “Deadpool & Wolverine” in theaters now.
