Got a Tip?

Derek Luke Plays Gabe Jones In ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’

Yeah, the internet has been pretty quiet the past couple of days as the movie world flocks to Austin for SXSW which kicks off today, so forgive us for this pretty minor update. But we figure it’ll be of interest to some of you out there.

Blackfilm reports that Derek Luke — probably best known for playing the titular character in “Antwone Fisher” as well as Sean Combs in “Notorious” — will be playing Gabe Jones in the upcoming “Captain America: The First Avenger.” Luke joined the cast ages ago and it was never really confirmed what part he would play until now. In comics lore, Jones is close confident to Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and later joins S.H.I.E.L.D. He is the first African-American member of Howling Commandos squad in WWII and was known for carrying a trumpet into battle. So there you have it.

Starring Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, Tommy Lee Jones, Dominic Cooper, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan and Stanley Tucci, and directed by Joe Johnston, “Captain America: The First Avenger” will go into battle on July 22, 2011.
