The best video ever hit the internet a few months back, in the form of a short teaser for James Franco‘s upcoming Tommy Wiseau movie “The Disaster Artist.” Now we have a full trailer, and are more excited than ever to see this insane piece of work.
Here’s the official synopsis:
With “The Disaster Artist”, James Franco transforms the tragicomic true-story of aspiring filmmaker and infamous Hollywood outsider Tommy Wiseau—an artist whose passion was as sincere as his methods were questionable—into a celebration of friendship, artistic expression, and dreams pursued against insurmountable odds. Based on Greg Sestero’s best-selling tell-all about the making of Tommy’s cult-classic disasterpiece “The Room” (“The Greatest Bad Movie Ever Made”), “The Disaster Artist” is a hilarious and welcome reminder that there is more than one way to become a legend—and no limit to what you can achieve when you have absolutely no idea what you’re doing.
Sestero is pushing the notion that Wiseau’s is an inspirational story, telling iNews that “no one believed in The Room, but [Wiseau] kept pushing and it finally found an audience… I felt it was a universal story that could appeal to more than just fans of “The Room.” It’s a story about following your dreams, a very odd friendship and a surreal variation on the American Dream.” Wiseau had this to say: “I believe [James Franco is] a very good actor and I have the same interest as he does. He’s a cool guy.”
Actor Jason Mantzoukas revealed this amazing tidbit (to EW): “Franco directed the whole movie in character as Tommy Wiseau. Well, I should amend that — he wasn’t in character as Tommy Wiseau, but once he started the day doing Tommy’s voice, he would spend the rest of the day doing the voice. So, it wasn’t like he was pretending to be Tommy, but it was like James using Tommy’s speech pattern and accent. It was really special and very funny.” “The Disaster Artist” also stars Dave Franco, Seth Rogen, Bryan Cranston, Zac Efron, Nathan Fielder, Ari Graynor, Josh Hutcherson, Paul Scheer, Sharon Stone, and Hannibal Buress. It hits theaters on December 1. Could it be an awards season player? Stranger things have happened…
