“It all comes down to the story,” "Frozen" co-director Jennifer Lee told Buzzfeed less than a week ago about a potential sequel to the animated worldbeating hit. “Like with the short [‘Frozen Fever‘ playing in front of ‘Cinderella‘ starting this weekend], it was so daunting until we found the story. Then it was all of the things it usually is, and we were thinking of every emotion and moment and feeling. I think that’s all we can do. Until we find our way into what’s next emotionally, it will feel too big. We just finished the short two weeks ago. One year ago, it was a lot to even think about doing a short. We were quite tired. We don’t really know what it’s like to stop for a minute and think about what we want to do next.”
Apparently, contemplation-time is now over. Disney has official announced a sequel to "Frozen"…and that’s about it. The first film generated $1.3 billion at the box office and sold a gazillion toys, trinkets and stuff you don’t need branded with the characters. Clearly, Disney is not going to let further opportunities melt way.
"We enjoyed making ‘Frozen Fever’ so much and being back in that world with those characters," Disney exec John Lasseter said. "Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck have come up with a great idea for a sequel, and you will be hearing a lot more about it and we’re taking you back to Arendelle. We are so excited about that.” It seems a lot has changed in a week. [Variety/First Showing]
