Got a Tip?

‘DMZ’ Trailer: Ava DuVernay’s New DC Comics’ Mini-Series Starring Rosario Dawson Debuts March 17 On HBO Max

Can anyone find hope among total desolation? One woman is on a quest to restore hers in DC’s “DMZ.” The limited series from producer and director Ava DuVernay brings to life the popular comic. For DuVernay, it acts as yet another crucial step into the already crowded streaming market. She’s pairing with “Westworld” executive producer Robert Patino to share this dystopian tale.

Rosario Dawson leads the cast as Alma Ortega. The medic takes on an incredibly dangerous landscape — all in hopes of saving her son. “DMZ” offers yet another chance for the actress to show off her impressive dramatic range. The “Dopesick” star is not alone in this outstanding cast. Benjamin Bratt comes to the series as the ruthless Parco Delgado. It’s a departure for Bratt, more known for his leading roles on “Private Practice” as well as “Law & Order.”

The limited event series’ official synopsis:

In the near future, America is embroiled in a bitter civil war, leaving Manhattan a demilitarized zone (DMZ), destroyed and isolated from the rest of the world. Leaping off the pages of the popular comic, “DMZ” chronicles the harrowing journey of fearless and fierce medic Alma Ortega (series star Rosario Dawson), who sets out on a harrowing journey to find the son she lost in the evacuation of New York City at the onset of the conflict.

Throwing gasoline on the flames of that conflict is Parco Delgado (series star Benjamin Bratt), the popular — and deadly — leader of one of the most powerful gangs in the DMZ. He wants to rule this new world — and will stop at nothing to secure that outcome. In this adrenalized and expansive drama that examines a stark political and cultural divide in American society, Alma must contend with the gangs, militias, demagogues, and warlords that control this lawless no man’s land. In doing so, she becomes the unlikely source of what everyone here has lost: hope.

Hoon Lee, Jordan Preston Carter, and Freddy Miyares also star in “DMZ.” The HBO Max exclusive is produced by ARRAY Filmworks in association with Warner Bros. Television. Max Original “DMZ” debuts Thursday, March 17, with all four episodes of the limited series based on the DC graphic novel of the same name. Get your first look at the limited series below.
