While it might be a bummer that fans of “Atlanta” are going to have to wait over a year for the follow-up to the award-winning, acclaimed first season, perhaps that’s a good thing given much how TV there is to watch already at the moment. And it might be even better news now that Donald Glover has revealed his intentions for the next batch of episodes. Simply put, he wants to raise the bar considerably.
Following a recent For Your Consideration screening of “Atlanta” at Carnegie Hall, Glover sat down for a Q&A and shared his goals for the show as it moves forward. “I just hope it’s a way better show, and more cohesive. I’m really touched that people are connecting to it and like it, but …” he said. “I want you to be able to watch the first season and be like ‘Wow, I like that season, but the second one is way better.’ I want that debate happening.”
As for the success of the show thus far, Glover attributes it to bringing a viewpoint rarely seen on the small screen. “All stories are the same. You want to watch the hero go through the journey, but nobody had the perspective we had,” he said. “As much as it seems like everything’s been done, it’s just really about how you decorate it.”
Well, we can’t wait to see how he decorates “Atlanta” season two. But first, he’ll have to finish his work on the Han Solo movie. [Variety]
