‘Dream Scenario’ Trailer: Nicolas Cage’s Nightmare Is Turning Up In Everyone’s Dreams In New A24 Comedy

You’ll forgive us for not seeing everything at the Toronto International Film Festival, some things fall through the cracks, and arguably the biggest, one we’re still dying to see is “Dream Scenario” starring Nicolas Cage. It’s a surreal A24 comedy starring Cage, co-produced by Ari Aster (“Beau Is Afraid”), with the music made by occasional Arcade Fire musician Owen Pallett (aka Final Fantasy). We’re sold already.

But the details themselves are even more intriguing. Helmed by writer/director Kristoffer Borgli, known for the 2022 Cannes comedy “Sick Of Myself,” the film stars Cage as an inconspicuous academic who is thrust into the limelight after he starts inexplicably appearing in people’s dreams.

The film also co-stars Julianne Nicholson, Michael Cera, Tim Meadows, Dylan Gelula, and Dylan Baker, with cinematography by Benjamin Loeb, known for shooting “After Yang” and the Nicolas Cage-starring gonzo 2018 revenge film “Mandy.”

“Dream Scenario” is also produced by Lars Knudsen—formerly of the excellent indie company Parts & Labor, which produced “The Witch,” “American Honey,” “Ain’t Them Bodies Saints,” “Beginners,” and many more, plus Aster, Tyler Campellone and Jacob Jaffke.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Hapless family man Paul Matthews (Nicolas Cage) finds his life turned upside down when millions of strangers suddenly start seeing him in their dreams. But when his nighttime appearances take a nightmarish turn, Paul is forced to navigate his newfound stardom in this wickedly entertaining comedy from writer-director Kristoffer Borgli (Sick of Myself) and producer Ari Aster.

“Dream Scenario” seemed to get a lot of raves out of TIFF (jealous), but the rest of the world will see the R-rated comedy soon on November 10, 2023. Watch the first trailer below.
