‘Dune: Part Two’ Reactions: An “Immense, Epic” Blockbuster With “Visionary & Visually Stunning Moments”

Earlier today, one of the last puzzles of the “Dune” puzzle came together. “The Queen’s Gambit” star Anya Taylor-Joy, who leads the upcoming “Mad Max: Furiosa” film, revealed she has a role in Dennis Villeneuve’sDune: Part Two.” Who is she playing? We know, but are sworn to secrecy and won’t spoil more than she has herself already. And now the social media review embargo on “Dune: Part Two” has lifted, and the reactions are well, effusive, to say the least.

Christopher Nolan’s already compared it to “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back,” and most reactions are big superfluous raves. Let’s start out first with Playlist Editor-In-Chief Rodrigo Perez, who teases his upcoming review. “#DunePartTwo social embargo up so… [I’m] trying to avoid hyperbole: it’s immense and overwhelming at times. Imagine Zack Snyder made a grandiose, overblown sci-fi epic, but it landed, was good, and provoked awe.” A follow-up tweet, which you can see below, suggests the story is incomplete and needs a third, “Dune: Messiah” film to finish the tale, but Villeneuve has said he’s unsure if that’s going to come next or wait a few years and do another film in between.

Other reactions are similarly impressed with Playlist Awards Editor Gregory Ellwood saying, “Dune: Part Two is damn impressive. Villeneuve crafts some truly VISIONARY moments.”

“Dune: Part Two” has an immense cast. Reprising their roles from the original film are Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya, Charlotte Rampling, and Javier Bardem. Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken, and Léa Seydoux are thew newcomers joining the ensemble cast for ‘Part Two.’

After a dismal first quarter box office, pundits are hoping and expecting “Dune: Part Two” to be the biggest blockbuster release of 2024 and these social reactions surely won’t hurt in that regard. “Dune: Part Two” opens March 1, 2024.
