'Dune: The Sisterhood': 'Game Of Thrones' & 'Obi-Wan Kenobi' Star Indira Varma Joins HBO Max's Prequel Series

Dune: Part Two” doesn’t hit theaters until November 3, 2023, but thanks to the box-office success of “Dune” last year, Legendary Pictures knows they have a hit on their hands. And that makes them confident enough to move ahead with their “Dune” series on the small screen with HBO Max. First announced in 2019, “Dune: The Sisterhood” started its casting process earlier this month with Emily Watson and Emily Henderson. Now, Deadline reports, a third actress joins the cast: “Game Of Thrones” and “Obi-Wan Kenobi” star Indira Varma.

Varma will play Empress Natalya in the upcoming series, described as “a formidable royal who united thousands of worlds in her marriage to Emperor Corrino. Adapted from the novel “Sisterhood Of Dune” by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, the series takes place 10,000 years before the heroic arc of Paul Atreides and follows the founding of the Bene Gesserit by the Harkonnen sisters.

Diane Ademu-John acts as creator, writer, co-showrunner, and executive producer for “Dune: The Sisterhood.”  Alison Schapker also serves as co-showrunner and executive producer. Emmy-winner Johan Renck will direct the premiere episode and also executive-produce.

HBO Max and Legendary Television co-produce the upcoming series, which likely aims at a premiere after “Dune: Part Two” hits theaters. “Dune” director Denis Villeneuve will serve as executive producer on the series with Jon Spaihts, Scott Z. Burns, Matthew King, John Cameron, and Cait Collins. Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt, and Kim Herbert also serve as executive producers for the Frank Herbert estate. Meanwhile, Anderson co-produces the series.

Alongside her recent role in “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” Varma also stars in Apple TV+‘s upcoming anthology series “Extrapolations” with Ed Norton and Michael Gandolfini. She also stars in the upcoming blockbuster, “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning – Part One.” Her other TV credits include Amazon/Legendary’s “Carnival Row,” Showtime‘s “Patrick Melrose,” and BBC‘s “Luther.”

Indira Varma is a great casting choice for “Dune: The Sisterhood.” So, who will join her, Emily Watson, and Emily Henderson in the upcoming series? Stay tuned as more news about this show breaks in the coming months.
