Got a Tip?

Duplass Bros. Developing Teacher/Student Relationship Drama ‘A Teacher’ For HBO

A Teacher

One of the more striking little flicks of last year was “A Teacher,” Hannah Fidell‘s debut film about a teacher having a liaison with one of her male pupils. It wasn’t perfect (read our review), but it was a good piece of work about a difficult subject (see also: “Notes on a Scandal”). And now we’re going to see that story unfold on a bigger scale.

The folks over at HBO are talking about making it into a TV series, with Fidell back, executive producing and writing, and brotherly polymaths Jay Duplass and Mark Duplass producing alongside Michael Costigan (producer, of all of Ridley Scott‘s recent movies). What’s not clear is if the actors would be returning, or whether the show would focus on different people but the same dynamic. It seems like the project is still getting its ducks in a row, but it certainly is territory ripe for some good drama.

Anyway, as the pilot gets drafted by Fidell and “Shameless” scribe Daniel Brocklehurst, it’ll be interesting to see what shape it takes. [The Wrap]
