After making his big screen debut in the dismal “The Mummy Returns,” few thought that pro-wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was long for the acting world but the one-two punch of “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island” and “Fast Five” last year — which both saw more box office success than their predecessors — has solidified himself as the latest action star. This year sees him in two high-profile projects and posters for the films have dropped.
First up is the official one-sheet for teal and orange auteur Michael Bay’s attempt at a small-scale film, “Pain And Gain.” Starring Johnson opposite fellow beefcake Mark Wahlberg, the based-on-a-true-story film follows the pair as Floridian bodybuilders who kidnap, rob and leave for dead a wealthy businessman. But their plans take a twist when their victim survives and hires a P.I. to help him exact revenge. The film also features a deep bench of talented supporting actors like Ed Harris, Rob Corddry, Tony Shalhoub, Rebel Wilson, Ken Jeong, Bar Paly, Tony Plana and Yolanthe Cabau.
“G.I. Joe: Retaliation” was originally supposed to hit theatres earlier this summer, with posters already plastered up and toys stocked on shelves before Paramount decided to delay the sequel until next year under the guise of delivering a good 3D conversion, but mostly to add more of the Sexiest Man Alive to the film. Channing Tatum originally died early in the film with Johnson taking over as leader of the outfit and Bruce Willis adding some more star power, but after his coming out party this year the film’s undergone a round of reshoots to pump in some more “Magic Mike.” Check out the new poster below with 100% more 3D.
