Got a Tip?

‘Easy A’ Helmer Will Gluck To Direct Action-Comedy ‘Secretaries Day’ From ‘Iron Man 3’ Writer Drew Pearce

nullSony loves Will Gluck. In the course of three movies (“Fired Up!,” “Easy A,” and “Friends With Benefits”) he transformed the company’s Screen Gems shingle from a cheap huckster of common genre flicks (the “Underworld” movies, “Takers,” “Priest,” “Burlesque”) into the premiere haven for somewhat-intelligent inexpensive mainstream comedy features (and, yes, also, common genre flicks). In fact, the studio signed the helmer to a two-year deal last fall.

So it’s no surprise that Sony has picked up a spec pitch from “Iron Man 3” screenwriter Drew Pearce for Gluck to produce and direct. The action-comedy is titled “Secretaries Day” and we’re going to assume this film is a vehicle for female actresses, a la “Bridesmaids” (but with more explosions).

Screenwriter Pearce recently agreed to write “Sherlock Holmes 3” for Warner Bros. and did a little work on Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming “Pacific Rim.” Since "Secretaries Day" was sold at the pitch stage, that means no one’s actually written it yet, so there’s no telling when this one will get made, or if Gluck will help pen the script himself (he received a co-writing credit on "Friends With Benefits"). But you can throw this one on the growing pile of Gluck projects that includes "Sex On The Moon," a potential re-team with Emma Stone (though that project was supposed to shoot this summer which never happened) as well as producing a remake of "…About Last Night."

Busy times ahead for Gluck, and it looks like Garry Marshall isn't the only one who can turn a meaningless holiday into the premise of a movie. [Deadline]
